Drop Acid

Before you ask “Is my doctor telling me to drop acid?!” let me be clear:

I’m not talking about those who tuned out and took LSD in the 1970’s.

We are speaking about URIC ACID. People know about uric acid and think primarily about the disease gout. However, uric acid, as a marker has a wide range of utility. Uric acid is made from purines found in organ meats.  Most of the purines are not from our foods but from our muscle breakdown.

Uric Acid causes Gout

Uric acid is known by sufferers of gout, but it can cause other problems as well! Call us today (561) 842-7422

Uric acid is also made by consuming alcoholic beverages, and last, but certainly not least, from fructose (fruit sugar), and by fructose we mean high fructose corn syrup found ubiquitously in our diets. So, stop eating sugar on a regular basis. It’s a poison (and particularly high-fructose corn syrup).

Elevated uric acid increases pro-inflammatory gut species, increases gut permeability, and leads to leaky gut. This leads to autoimmunity (where your body attacks itself). Elevated uric acid can also increase your blood pressure.

Here is the take home message for why it’s important to know your uric acid level (just like you need to monitor and know your fasting glucose number).

For each 1 point above 7 you increase your risk of dying from all causes by 8-13%.

At what levels are you safe?

We want uric acid to be less than or equal to 5.5. Elevations of uric acid above 5.5 should be treated. The number one medicine used forever has been Allopurinol. We have new and effective ways of lowering this marker.

Higher levels of uric acid levels can also come from inherited tendencies. Check out our genetic testing options to uncover insights to live your best life.

What can I do to lower uric acid levels?

1.     Stop eating things with high fructose corn syrup! It’s sneaky so check the labels of all of your processed food.

2.     Start Luteolin 100mg/day.*

3.     Start Quercetin 500mg/day.  Ex. Quercetin dihydrate is found in the product Repair Guard ™ from Perque.

4.     Incorporate foods with Vitamin C

*Consult your doctor before any changes in diet or supplements.
